She has recently became super fascinated by Poto and Cabengo!

@Claudia, it's so cool that you knew them and got to work with them. Grace and Virginia seem like they were very intelligent and I hope they knew, and still know, how intelligent they are. If it's okay with you, I'd love to hear more about them so I can share with Rita.

@Steven, thanks for writing such a thorough blog post. I would like to tell you that Rita loves Grace and Virginia so much and she's still only a teenager!

Rita and I both wish "Liba Poto" and "Liba Cabengo" a long and happy life filled with blessings and joy. <3

Best wishes,
Stella and Rita.lorenzostime24https://www.blogger.com/profile/00174478735213701631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468474150278853532.post-21209444089418826582021-07-23T11:36:09.141-05:002021-07-23T11:36:09.141-05:00IMPRESSIVE; A VERY STERN BEAUTYIMPRESSIVE; A VERY STERN BEAUTYWayne Hollandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09194351258159794226noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468474150278853532.post-73533828155546424152018-07-17T16:00:22.981-05:002018-07-17T16:00:22.981-05:00I love this. A culture and tongue of two is still a culture - wow I wonder the intricacy of what they created - children’s minds are just so vast yet utterly efficient - they needed a way to connect and thankfully had each other to do so and so, created their own world! Without each other I bet their intelligence and creativity would have suffered greatly. Shows our need for one another. I hate it that they were neglected, taught English so late and then expected to up and abandon the tongue they had mastered - their own. Seems symbolic of a lot of other ways we treat children,- sometimes dismissive of the significance of their own creativity of personality and values so that they can “fit in” yet who knows how profound the loss for some of these young hearts? Children’s minds such a creative force. What a wonderful essay on these two creators. Thank you for writing it Steven, so valuable. That was the year we got the Kennedy twins. I was Grace's teacher and Virginia was next door in another class. This was their first school experience and as I recall it, it went very well after their initial shyness. Grace learned quickly and I am surprised to read now that they are "still developmentally disabled". I hope that despite that, they have had a good life.
Claudia FlintClaudiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01978694070197276280noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468474150278853532.post-2975222595505241002014-08-11T14:09:25.499-05:002014-08-11T14:09:25.499-05:00How can a man know that something is better, or hi...How can a man know that something is better, or higher, than he is? Seems to be nothing more than a concept. Do animals recognize man as something higher than them? I doubt it. To recognize means literally to re-cognize. You must first cognize before you can re-cognize. Do animals cognize man AS man? Or just something other? How much cognition of any kind are animals capable of? Man cognizes. At least he says that he does. But that is self-referencing, which is meaningless. It's just like man calling himself homo sapiens. That too is self referencing. How does he know he is wise? Because he says so? Does anybody else say so?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6468474150278853532.post-56725479923255725542014-08-06T01:59:58.792-05:002014-08-06T01:59:58.792-05:00Fascinating story! I secretly envied my mother bc I feel like she got everything I wanted and I feel like she just took it for granted. I tried so hard to make my childrens lives everything I didnt have but that just wasnt in the stars for us. Im a gypsy, join the circus and homeschool my kids kinda girl. Which makes me feel like I have split personality disorder! Im 34 and I still dont know what I wanna be when I grow up. Where geographically is my fucking home??? Trying to fit in anywhere feels impossible bc Idk if I want to get married, have cats and knit booties in front of the fire birthing children one after another (lol ok that was funny) or be a model/actress or be a bum in a tent on the beach?? I feel like if I dont pick a choice Im doomed to be boring forever. In other words, I meet many people of my age who still seem to be drinking the Kool-aid I spat out as an adolscent. Maybe our influence is really more in art and barely in society. Maybe it is societal ina much watered down way.

Also, I meet many of the younger generation...Y and millenials, whatever. I can't help but wonder whether a calculus of limits could be applied to it in order to ascertain the extent to which this practice (of not delving too deeply) can go. This is of course a social musing. What kind of society will evolve (indeed, what kind of society is currently emerging) as a result of such widespread "shallowness?"
